About Ol Tukai

At Ol Tukai Lodge, elephants wander beneath Kilimanjaro as wetlands shimmer beside the lodge. A peaceful Amboseli refuge where wide skies and iconic views frame every stay.

Set deep within Amboseli National Park, Ol Tukai rests on open grassland at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, where elephants thread the marshes with the mountain’s snow-dusted summit as a backdrop. The lodge’s story reaches back to the post‑war film set of The Snows of Kilimanjaro, and today it blends that heritage with contemporary Kenyan warmth. Eighty chalet‑style rooms face either the wetlands or the mountain, each with a private terrace made for unhurried wildlife watching. The location places guests in one of Africa’s most celebrated elephant landscapes. Rooms are airy and comfortable, featuring en-suite bathrooms, in-room safes, fans, and tea and coffee stations. Two rooms are adapted to EU standards for guests with limited mobility. Between drives, time folds into the rhythm of the property: swim beneath acacia shade, browse the small gift shop, try a massage at the spa, or settle into a quiet corner with board games and Wi‑Fi on hand. The layout feels welcoming to families as well as couples, with lawns that open toward the marsh where giraffe, zebra, and buffalo wander past the boundary. Amboseli’s wildlife comes into sharp focus here. Morning and afternoon game drives explore seasonal pans, fever-tree forests, and permanent swamps that attract vast herds of elephant, along with lion, cheetah, spotted hyena, jackal, wildebeest, Grant’s and Thomson’s gazelle, zebra, and troops of baboon. Birding is exceptional, with more than 400 species recorded; short guided walks around the lodge gardens offer easy sightings. Visits to a nearby elephant research centre deepen understanding of Amboseli’s iconic herds, while cultural excursions to a Maasai village share living traditions. After-dark activities may be arranged in line with park regulations. Dining is central to the experience. The restaurant’s sisal tapestry pays homage to Maasai artistry, and the veranda is the scene for relaxed lunches as elephant families graze just beyond the fence. The open-air Elephant Bar and its roof-deck survey the marsh and Kilimanjaro—ideal for sundowners or a post-drive nightcap. Signature touches range from champagne breakfasts on Observation Hill to atmospheric bush dinners. With a well-equipped conference venue, attentive service, and an ethos that’s both eco‑conscious and hospitable, Ol Tukai offers a grounded, view-rich base for photographers, wildlife lovers, and anyone drawn to Kilimanjaro’s silhouette.
