About Saruni Mara

Hilltop haven with Maasai warmth, Saruni Mara pairs secluded villas and spa calm with expert-guided game drives in the wildlife-rich Mara North Conservancy, far from the crowds.

Set on a forested ridge in the private Mara North Conservancy, Saruni Mara offers a quietly luxurious base from which to experience the Masai Mara’s wildlife with space and privacy. Recently reimagined, the lodge retains its classic thatch-and-timber character while opening wide to rolling hills and open savannah. As a founding partner of the conservancy, Saruni Mara benefits from low vehicle densities and meaningful community partnerships, allowing guests to explore one of Africa’s richest ecosystems with time to watch, listen and linger. Game drives led by Maasai guides and trackers are the heartbeat of a stay here. Dawn and late-afternoon outings seek lion, leopard and cheetah, as well as elephant, giraffe, buffalo and thriving plains herds; night drives reveal lesser-seen hyena, serval and porcupine. From July to October, parts of the wildebeest migration filter through Mara North, adding dramatic river valleys and heaving grasslands to the day’s stories. Guided bush walks interpret tracks, plants and birdlife at a natural pace, while unhurried sundowners and bush breakfasts make the landscape part of the table. Families can opt into hands-on learning with Saruni’s Warriors Academy-style activities, and private vehicles can be arranged, with exclusive use included for guests of the Private Villa. Accommodation is intimate and varied: five spacious cottages, a dedicated Family Villa and an exclusive-use Private Villa. Each has been carefully refurbished, balancing handcrafted furniture and vintage safari prints with contemporary comforts. Large ensuite bathrooms, cosy fireplaces and wide verandas or stargazing decks frame long views across the conservancy. The Family Villa gathers everyone around a generous lounge and hearth, while the Private Villa’s two ensuite bedrooms and sitting room create a secluded wilderness home with flexibility on daily schedules. In-room Wi‑Fi, solar power, safes and purified drinking water come as standard. Dining is thoughtful and unpretentious. Fireside meals in the lounge and dining room are complemented by al fresco suppers beneath brilliant southern skies, while a tucked-away mezzanine sets the scene for discreet private dinners. Menus highlight fresh Kenyan ingredients and the rhythms of a safari day, from early coffee to convivial, candlelit courses. Between activities, the Maasai Wellbeing Space offers calm; trained therapists draw on traditional herbal knowledge as well as modern techniques, and each room receives a complimentary 30‑minute massage per stay. It all adds up to an immersive yet gentle pace, guided with care and grounded in the conservancy’s ethos.
