Nestled on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River in the iconic Ol Pejeta Conservancy in central Kenya’s Laikipia County, Ol Pejeta Bush Camp is an intimate, eco-friendly safari camp that brings you close to Africa’s most celebrated wildlife and conservation stories. The camp is part of the Asilia Africa collection, a company known for creating authentic safari experiences that combine comfortable accommodation with meaningful conservation impact.
This camp is small by design. With just seven to ten spacious, canvas safari tents (including family tents) placed thoughtfully along the riverbank, it offers a sense of solitude and immersion in the wild that larger lodges simply cannot match. Each tent blends classic East African safari style with Asilia’s signature eco-luxury touch, creating a comfortable yet grounded base for your adventure.
From the moment you arrive, the setting feels timeless. Lantern-lit walkways lead you to your private tent, and from your veranda you can often spot wild elephants and other wildlife crossing the river or grazing on the plains. Mount Kenya rises on the horizon, adding a dramatic backdrop to a landscape that is rich in biodiversity and essential to East African conservation.
Inside, the tents offer en-suite bathrooms with hot water, soft beds, solar-powered lighting, and views over the river. Communal spaces include an open-sided mess tent for shared meals and a relaxed lounge area with a fire pit where guests gather at sunset. Meals are grounded in fresh, locally sourced ingredients, celebrating Kenyan flavours and the convivial bush-dining atmosphere.
But it’s the wildlife and conservation opportunities that make this camp especially memorable. The Ol Pejeta Conservancy is famous for housing the last remaining northern white rhinos on Earth and Africa’s largest population of black rhino. Guided game drives explore the wider landscape in search of the Big Five, cheetah, and a remarkable array of birdlife. Guests can also take part in activities that support conservation research and community engagement — such as visiting the anti-poaching canine unit, joining lion-tracking research teams, or learning about the fantastic work at the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary.
Whether you’re a seasoned safari enthusiast or a first-time visitor to East Africa, Ol Pejeta Bush Camp delivers an authentic safari experience grounded in connection with nature, wildlife conservation, and the rhythms of the African bush
