About Keekorok Lodge

The original Masai Mara lodge, offering classic safari comfort directly in the path of the Great Wildebeest Migration.

Keekorok Lodge holds a treasured place in safari history as the first property established within Kenya’s magnificent Masai Mara National Reserve. Strategically located in the southern part of the reserve, it lies directly in the path of the annual Great Migration. The lodge is beautifully situated amidst 80 acres of pristine grounds, surrounded by the vast, open grasslands that define this iconic landscape. Its position ensures guests are at the very epicentre of one of the world's most incredible wildlife spectacles, with the drama of the migration unfolding on its doorstep during the season. The wildlife viewing from Keekorok is exceptional throughout the year. The surrounding plains teem with life, offering frequent sightings of the Big Five—lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo. Herds of zebra, giraffe, and gazelle are common residents, while opportunistic cheetahs scan the horizon from termite mounds. A standout feature of the lodge is its 300m elevated walkway, which meanders through the grounds to a dedicated bar overlooking a thriving hippo pool. Here, guests can safely observe these massive creatures and the abundant birdlife they attract, providing a constant source of natural entertainment. Accommodation is provided in a range of comfortable and tastefully appointed rooms, chalets, and bungalows. Constructed from local stone and wood, the rooms blend harmoniously with the natural environment. Each unit features modern amenities and a private balcony or verandah, offering serene views across the lush gardens or the expansive Mara plains. The overall atmosphere of the lodge is one of classic safari charm—welcoming, relaxed, and focused on providing a comfortable and authentic base for exploration, rather than ostentatious luxury. Days at Keekorok are filled with adventure. Expert local guides lead morning and afternoon game drives in open-sided 4x4 vehicles, sharing their deep knowledge of the ecosystem. For a truly unforgettable perspective, the lodge can arrange dawn hot-air balloon safaris over the Mara, followed by a champagne breakfast in the bush. Guests can also engage with the local culture through guided visits to a nearby Maasai community. In the evenings, the lodge’s restaurant serves a diverse array of international and local dishes, often buffet-style, fostering a sociable atmosphere where guests can share stories of their day’s sightings.
