About Arijiju

Stone-and-cedar sanctuary on the Lewa, Borana plateau, where rhino roam, Mt. Kenya looms and days flow from game drives and horseback rides to hammam, garden feasts and starry silence.

Carved into a rocky ridge on Kenya’s Laikipia plateau, Arijiju is a private sanctuary in the greater Lewa, Borana landscape, designed as a home as much as a safari base. Earth-toned walls, cloistered walkways and green roofs sink the house into the hills, opening long views to Mount Kenya. Honouring a tradition of clustered family dwellings, the main house holds three suites, with two standalone cottages along a stone path, ideal for multi‑generational gatherings or friends travelling together. These conservancies are a beacon for conservation, with thriving populations of black and white rhino alongside elephant, lion, cheetah, leopard and buffalo. Classic savanna blends with acacia woodland and rocky kopjes, habitat for northern rarities such as Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, beisa oryx and gerenuk. Expert guides lead unhurried game drives at first light and late afternoon, reading tracks and calls, allowing time for photography, birding and quiet observation. Days need not be vehicle-bound. Guided walks reveal plants, spoor and cultural lore; horseback rides and mountain bikes bring a different rhythm across open plains. Trail runners set off from the door, while helicopter excursions unveil forested ridges, lava deserts and the tarns of Mount Kenya. Guests may also learn about protection efforts, meeting teams who monitor rhino and track collared elephants, and seeing how open corridors link Lewa and Borana. Arijiju’s restorative ethos shapes the pace. A serene spa offers therapies using African botanicals, complemented by a hammam, sauna and a light-filled gym. Yoga can be arranged on the lawn or rooftop, and a 25‑metre pool slips between boulders for midday laps. Tennis and squash courts, a library and a discreet cinema room round out time at leisure. Dining centres on produce from the organic garden and nearby smallholders, crisp greens, fragrant herbs and responsibly reared meats. Menus are tailored to preference, from plant‑forward and gluten‑free to celebratory feasts, with bush picnics and courtyard dinners under lanterns. Service is attentive yet unobtrusive, and the house is taken on an exclusive‑use basis with a dedicated guide and full team, bringing wellness, wildlife and thoughtful design together in one refined Kenyan setting.
