About Amboseli Sopa Lodge
Set on 200 acres of private land in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, on the edge of Amboseli National Park.
Amboseli Sopa Lodge nestles on 200 acres of private land in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, just a 20-minute drive from the entrance to Amboseli National Park. Africa's highest snow-capped mountain forms a dramatic backdrop to this rustic, characterful lodge, the very landscape that inspired Ernest Hemingway's "The Snows of Kilimanjaro" and "The Short, Happy Life of Francis Macomber" in the 1930s.
The lodge offers 83 rooms, including a honeymoon suite, six interconnecting rooms and two wheelchair-accessible rooms, all set within mature gardens that draw frequent visits from monkeys and birdlife. Guests gather in the bar and lounge, dine indoors or on the open-air terrace, and cool off in the swimming pool between drives. A gift shop and an open-air local craft market round out the on-site facilities, with WiFi available in public areas. Activities focus on game drives into Amboseli National Park, home to over 600 breeding bird species and one of the best places in Africa to see large breeding herds of elephants framed against Kilimanjaro. Bush meals, outdoor dining and guided nature walks make the most of the lodge's private wilderness, while the surrounding region remains the heartland of the Maasai people, offering authentic cultural encounters alongside classic safari experiences.
