About Amboseli Discovery Camp
An intimate tented safari with iconic Kilimanjaro views, far from the Amboseli crowds.
Nestled on the periphery of the world-renowned Amboseli National Park, Amboseli Discovery Camp offers an authentic safari experience defined by its coveted location and sense of seclusion. The camp is strategically positioned to provide breathtaking, unobstructed views of Mount Kilimanjaro’s snow-capped peak, which rises majestically from the plains of East Africa. By situating itself away from the busier tourist circuits, the camp ensures a tranquil retreat where guests can immerse themselves in the wilderness without distraction, enjoying a profound sense of peace and intimacy with the iconic landscape.
Amboseli is a land of dramatic contrasts, from its arid, dusty plains to the life-giving emerald swamps fed by underground springs originating from Kilimanjaro’s glaciers. This diverse ecosystem supports a remarkable concentration of wildlife, most notably the park’s famous herds of large-tusked elephants. Game drives from the camp offer exceptional opportunities to observe these gentle giants as they move across the savanna. The region is also home to a healthy population of predators including lions, cheetahs, and spotted hyenas, alongside graceful giraffes, vast herds of zebra and wildebeest, and an impressive array of over 400 bird species.
Accommodation is provided in classic Hemingway-style safari tents, designed to evoke the golden age of exploration while providing essential comforts. Each spacious canvas tent is tastefully appointed with comfortable bedding and an en-suite bathroom, ensuring a private and restful stay. A shaded veranda at the front of each tent provides a personal space for relaxation, reading, or simply watching the surrounding bush come to life. This traditional tented style allows guests to feel fully connected to their surroundings—falling asleep to the distant calls of wildlife is an integral part of the experience.
The camp’s daily rhythm is built around discovery and connection with nature. Beyond the expertly guided game drives in custom safari vehicles, the camp offers a unique opportunity for deeper immersion: guided bush walks. Accompanied by local Maasai warriors, guests can explore the savanna on foot, learning firsthand about animal tracks, traditional plant uses, and the subtle secrets of the ecosystem. Evenings are a celebrated affair, often beginning with sundowner drinks at a scenic viewpoint as the sun sets behind the mountain. After a day of adventure, guests gather around a crackling campfire to share stories before enjoying wholesome, freshly prepared meals served under the vast African sky.
