About Sanctuary Kichakani Serengeti Camp
A pioneering mobile camp following the Great Migration for a front-row seat to the Serengeti's greatest spectacle.
Sanctuary Kichakani Serengeti Camp offers a safari experience intrinsically linked to the rhythms of the wild. As a sophisticated mobile camp, it pioneers the concept of luxury on the move, repositioning itself three times a year to ensure guests are always in the optimal location for the Great Migration. From the calving season on the southern plains (December-March) to the central region's predator-rich landscapes (June-July) and the dramatic Mara River crossings in the north (August-November), the camp provides a continuous, front-row seat to one of nature’s greatest spectacles. This mobility ensures an incredibly immersive experience, placing guests at the heart of the Serengeti's untamed wilderness.
Accommodation consists of ten elegant safari tents that balance classic expedition style with contemporary comforts. These spacious canvas retreats feature handcrafted furniture, plush bedding, and an en-suite bathroom with a flushing toilet and the authentic safari-style bucket shower. Hot water is delivered on request by a personal tent attendant, ensuring a refreshing end to a day of exploration. Each tent also has a private shaded verandah, offering a tranquil space to relax and observe passing wildlife. The camp’s design ensures a light footprint on the environment while providing a secure and comfortable haven amidst the vast plains.
Daily excursions are led by expert guides in custom 4x4 safari vehicles, designed for exceptional wildlife viewing. Game drives from Kichakani focus on tracking the colossal herds of wildebeest and zebra as they traverse the landscape. Beyond the migration, the Serengeti is home to a breathtaking density of resident wildlife. Encounters with its famed big cats—lions, leopards, and cheetahs—are common, alongside large herds of elephant, giraffe, and buffalo. The ever-changing scenery, from acacia-dotted savannah to weathered granite kopjes, provides a stunning backdrop for every adventure, highlighting the rich biodiversity of each location the camp inhabits.
The main camp area provides a convivial social hub. Under a central canvas canopy, guests will find a lounge, a small library, and a bar. Dining is a highlight, with meals served in the elegant dining tent or, when possible, under the vast, star-filled African sky. The day often concludes around a crackling campfire, where guests and guides share stories and review the day's sightings. This tradition, combined with classic sundowners served in scenic locations at dusk, fosters a deep connection to the classic safari experience and the magnificent surrounding environment.
