About Laba Siwandu
Classic safari camp on Lake Nzerakera.
Nestled on the shores of Lake Siwandu within Tanzania’s immense Nyerere National Park, Laba Siwandu is a sophisticated safari lodge with a unique artistic vision. Drawing inspiration from Federico García Lorca’s famous poem, the camp is an ode to the color green, reflecting the lush landscape that envelops it. From the deep green of the palm groves to the emerald waters of the lake, the lodge seamlessly integrates into its wild surroundings. It offers guests an immersive experience in one of Africa's largest and most remote wilderness areas, combining the romance of a classic safari with contemporary elegance and a deep appreciation for nature’s palette.
Accommodation is found in spacious and stylish tented suites, each thoughtfully positioned to offer privacy and uninterrupted views of the lake. Inside, the distinctive green theme continues with shimmering velvet seating, handcrafted clay-bead chandeliers, and striking zellige tiles in the en-suite bathrooms. Each suite opens onto a private wooden deck, the perfect spot for observing passing wildlife. The signature feature is a freestanding copper bathtub, inviting guests to enjoy a decadent, open-air soak while listening to the sounds of the African bush—a memorable experience that harks back to the golden age of exploration.
Nyerere National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is renowned for its low visitor density and exceptional wildlife. Laba Siwandu provides a gateway to exploring this pristine ecosystem through a variety of guided activities. Embark on morning and afternoon game drives in custom open-sided 4x4 vehicles to track the park’s healthy populations of lion, elephant, giraffe, and elusive wild dog. A key highlight is the water-based safari, where guests cruise along the lake and its interconnecting channels by boat. This offers a different perspective on the landscape and fantastic opportunities for viewing hippos, crocodiles, and an astonishing array of birdlife at the water’s edge.
The central lodge area provides a stylish and comfortable space for relaxation between safari excursions. An inviting infinity pool overlooks the lake, offering a cool respite from the midday heat, while a well-equipped gym is available for active guests. Dining at Laba Siwandu is an integral part of the experience, with an emphasis on fresh, creative cuisine. Meals are often served in spectacular settings, from elegant dinners in the main dining area to lantern-lit meals under the vast African sky. The experience is designed to be both a wilderness adventure and a refined retreat, where every detail contributes to a sense of place and tranquility.
