About Entamanu Ngorongoro
Exclusive eco-camp by Nomad Tanzania perched on the remote western rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, with panoramic views and a wilder, more private feel.
Entamanu Ngorongoro sits high on the crater rim, on the wild side, reached by a dramatic private drive through Maasai rangelands. From camp, views tumble into the caldera and sweep back toward the Serengeti plains. The setting is elemental: wind-brushed highlands, vast skies, and sunrise spilling gold across one of Africa’s most storied landscapes. Away from the busiest sections of the rim, the lodge offers the rare feeling of being embedded in the highlands themselves, using Ngorongoro as a base to live, not simply to look.
Days begin with unhurried descents onto the Crater floor, timed to skirt the crowds and make the most of the soft morning light. Here, lions doze on short grass, elephant bulls amble between fever trees, and endangered black rhino browse in the distance; great herds of wildebeest and zebra gather on the open plains, shadowed by hyena and jackal. Hippo wallow in reed-fringed pools and, when conditions allow, flamingos tint Lake Magadi pink. Back on the rim, guided walks with a specialist guide and a local Maasai track giraffe among acacia and montane heath, ending with sundowners facing the Serengeti horizon.
Accommodation is a thoughtful blend of canvas, wood and glass, raised on platforms to tread lightly and drink in the outlooks. Spacious en-suite rooms, including dedicated two-bedroom family tents, balance pared-back elegance with practical comfort: thick textiles, locally woven rugs and Maasai-inspired details lend character, while heaters, hot-water bottles and snug bedding keep the highland chill at bay. Private verandas frame the crater on one side and rolling highlands on the other. A central lounge and dining room provide a cosy refuge from the elements, with firelit evenings to plot tomorrow’s route.
Meals showcase fresh Tanzanian produce with an honest, seasonal approach—picnic breakfasts on the Crater floor, relaxed lunches back in camp, and candlelit dinners shared in the dining room. Cultural encounters are offered with care and authenticity, through exclusive access to a neighbouring Maasai boma, guided by hosts who live and work in this landscape. With flexible schedules, attentive guiding and a genuine sense of place, Entamanu Ngorongoro is a refined, low-impact base for exploring the Crater and the highlands around it—an immersive pause between the Serengeti and the rest of Northern Tanzania.
